(They made the assumption that any connected monitor should be able to support legacy VGA text/graphics modes, which wasn't a bad assumption at the time.) I know this because when I originally received a 2006 Mac Pro with a pair of 23" Cinema displays as a company workstation I was initially annoyed enough with trying to move my workflow over to OS X and the difficulty of getting Linux on it that I considered swapping the machine for a big Dell workstation, but the nVidia cards in said workstation were useless with the Cinema monitors (which I wanted to keep).

If you hook one up to a PC video card made before around late 2005-ish there's a good chance you won't see anything until your Windowing system loads because cards prior to that weren't smart enough to use the DDC information to pick a "supported by the monitor" video mode for DOS/BIOS messages. These days the manufacturers seem to make the assumption that your client is going to be polite and not try colouring outside the lines.Ī specific use case I'll mention that actually doesn't even involve VGA: Apple's DVI Cinema Displays are pretty much the worst case when it comes to backwards compatibility. If you want more quality you can always buy apple products. To second that: perhaps somewhat ironically older LCD monitors seem to be nicer about oddball video modes than current ones, undoubtedly because when they started appearing in droves back in the early 'aughts there was still a "considerably greater than non-zero" chance that someone might want to hook one up to a computer that didn't necessarily base its decisions about what video mode it output on the list of supported resolutions announced over the VESA DDC channel. So anyone cannot be successful with using an adapter to turn it to VGA.ĭVI to VGA adapter only works with 25+5 pin DVI-I port which can be found on old motherboards or Graphic cards.Īt last, if we have a mini display port or a thunderbolt port, we can use an active (type) adapter to turn digital signal to analog signal and use VGA. The DVI-D port which is on UP5-TH dont have an analog signal output built-in. If one google it, then he/she can find more about DVI ports like DVI-D DVI-I etc. Because i didn't know there are some types of DVI ports. I used to thought i can use VGA with a DVI to VGA adapter but forgive me about this.
Trust me this is the best solution to use VGA monitor. If one want to use a VGA monitor or have to use because of budget (like me) can buy a cheap Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter for 9.90. UP5-TH mobo has dual thunderbolt ports and this means we have two mini display port. Tomorrow i will buy a HDMI cable to connect my macx86 to LCD tv. The hardest thing for me was buying the rig but i jumped over this hurdle.
I'm new in the communuty but learning fast. But there might be a way to get rid of this for the sake of angels While i have to boot with -v GraphicsEnabler=NO i know i wont have a acceleration. The only problem left here is Graphic Acceleration.
I tried to boot with -v GraphicsEnabler=NO and tha da I press some keys and hear some sound so i understand something wrong but my audio is working. after multibeast installation "booting" stuck at the apple logo.

Now i tried to install ML with using motherboards VGA output with HD4000 and everything went well. I will be able to buy a monitor earliest 2 weeks later or more. I'm not able to buy a new monitor right now because i'm off the limits due to buying a new rig. I only have one monitor and it is an old type VGA LCD with D-SUB connector. I dont want to use it as a secondary monitor. Building a CustoMac Hackintosh: Buyer's Guide
